Self Reflection

  1.  So far I was starting of good, but eventually I had problems with the place of my service learning and wasn't able to turn in my second interview on time. In that case I should deserve an AP-
  2. One thing that I done well with my project is learning new things each time I research, figuring out how foster children are living now a days and how many actually made it to school and graduate. many foster children want the help to finish school but they can't afford it and many just don't feel like going because of the traumatic life they been through.
  3. Something I can improve with my project is to start doing my service learning and turn in my second interview because its really affecting my grades. I talked to Hunzeker about my service learning and she told me she will help me out by calling and explaining to them that I really need to be doing this hours for my project, so I'm hoping by this week my service learning and interview will be set.

Science Fair Proposal

1. What is your hypothesis?
If a student is in foster care then their chances of graduating are low.
2. Identify the dependent (produced), independent (manipulated) and control variables in your hypothesis.
Dependent: chances of graduating, Independent: foster care vs. no foster care , Control: students
3. What is the connection between your science fair project and your senior project EQ?
My EQ is "What is the best way to help a foster child find a permanent home?' The connection between my EQ and my science fair project is that many adoptive parents want children who have an education or want an education because they feel that children who want to study are good kids. Many adoptive parents want to help out children with their education and will be proud of helping out a foster child out with their future its a good way to make a child feel comfortable with their new family and they will also feel proud to have somebody who cares for their education.
4. How will you perform the experiment?  Include the equipment you plan on using.
I plan on looking up the data I need on the CDE website, and search for Foster Care graduation rates in several districts including pomona unified school district.
5. Which category will your project be listed under?
Behavioral/Social Science

What I've Learned So Far

  1. what I've learn so far during my senior project is that in foster care there is many ways to see children, I've never notice how many children in the world have been abused by their parents. Another thing I notice is that many children have different personalities and they all need attention because one thing that I learn is that sometimes by been abused they start having different issues such as having double life. What I mean by double life is that it may be that now the child wants to be bad trying to kill themselves, but also having a normal sad life.

  3. The reason I learned this was by interview and also by certain research I've looked at, in many that i found keeps telling me how many kids suffer by abused and I want to be able to help them out.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your independent study component.

  • For my independent study component I am planning in working at a day care, helping out kids.

2) Describe in detail how you think your plan will meet the 30 hours work requirement.

  • I would be going to do hours at a day care and meet 30 hours taking care of the children who stay there and also tutor them, play with them. I'm looking forward in meeting different kids and their personality because Norma Perez told me during m interview that I should go work at a day care because its a way to see how foster care works, and also because in foster care you deal with different type of kids who have different issues and its a way to know if working with kids is what I want to do.  During my hours I hope I can meet different children and get to spend time with them and help them out when ever they will need me.
3) How does your independent study component relate to your EQ?

  • My independent component relates to my EQ because I would get to see what I need to make children believe and be comfortable with others and a new home for them, I know that in day care I'm not looking to find them a permanent home but I am dealing with kids who need to believe and others and spend time with them without feeling bad.  In foster care there is kids who are really shy or just hurt that they are scare to talk to others and in day care once you leave a child there they think that their parents won't come back for them so then all they want to do is sit in the corner and not talk to nobody so the way to solve that is to build them trust and make them know that by the end they will be happy.

Defining the Essential Question

  1.  What is the best way to help a foster child find a permanent home?
  2. best: that which is more outstanding.  foster child: a needy child, as one living in an impoverished country, supported or aided by contribution to a specific charity.
  3. Give them love, have patient, and find them a good family.
  4. Norma Perez, she is the best source I had she was my interview she is Angle Macias mom. She used to work for foster care so I knew she would be the right person who can help me out in my project. She gave me good information about how you are suppose to treat them and how every child has different personalities.  You have to be able to leave everything aside and be with the child and give them all the attention so they can know there are people who love them.

Presentation Reflection

  1. I have to say that my interview helped me a lot in my presentation because my five minute presentation was about my interview Norma Perez. She really helped me out by telling me how foster care works and explaining to me that every child is different in how some have mental issues, drug abuse, physical issues, etc. The stories she told me during my interview of her experience she had with a couple of children got to me and it made me realize that I'm looking forward for learning more about foster care. In my presentation I talked a little about how she was a foster care worker and of what she thought about it they good things and the bad. Another thing I explained was the story of a young girl who has mental issues because her parents abuse and now shes living two different life's.
  2. The thing that stood up in my presentation that I said was the story of the young girl because I feel that a little girl of 5 years old had been through enough with her parents abuse and for no reason. Now, she is living two different life's she can be the sweetest girl but out of nowhere she becomes a violent girl who wants to hit people around her, hits herself and then blames it on the person who takes care of her. That little girl has been in the position of wanting to kill herself and I believe that little kids at that age shouldn't be suffering and wanting to die, thats the age where there suppose to feel love by their family and have fun playing but instead they want to die because of how much they been abuse.
  3. The most challenging part was that I couldn't decide in what to talk about because there is a lot to say about foster care, but I made it though by talking about my interview because she had interesting things that got my attention.

Blog 1: Senior Project Topic

My senior project is foster care because I always loved and enjoy spending time with kids. The reason I choose Foster Care and not something else involved with kids is because ever since I was little I seen kids who don't have family hurts me. Why? because knowing that I have a wonderful family and seen me happy and them sad its really hurtful such as them they would also like to enjoy a wonderful family who can teach them new things, play with them, feed them, and LOVE them. So ever since I started seeing way more children's in the street with nobody who can protect them I wanted to help them out, and why not? That is why I want to study foster care so one time I can become that person who can help them,
What I hope to accomplish during this year with my senior project is to see if working for foster care is what I want to do when I get older. I want to see how well I can help the little kids who deserve to have a wonderful family who will always love them. Another thing to see how foster care works and how the social workers show how the kids should be treated because I need to make sure if this is my future helping little kids. I know I can help them out and make them feel special because I had been taking care of kids and always enjoyed playing with them and spending time. So I believe its a good way to experience it now that I have a chance.
